DOMINATORS TIGHTEN
THEIR GRIP ON THE DIVISION
At the halfway
stage of the table tennis season there seams little to stop the Dominators from
retaining their First Division title. Despite a plucky performance from the
Waveney Piranhas the Dominators continue to steamroller the division and ran
out convincing winners 7-3 on the night. The evening started well for the
Piranhas when Ernie George restricted Luke Caswell's dangerous attacking play
to win a tight opening game and inflict Caswell's first league defeat of
season. Martin Peek restored parity with a win over David Holland and Andy
Green edged the Dominators ahead in the third game with a good win over Martin
Drew. Peek then maintained his recent good form with a straight sets victory
over George and Caswell beat Drew to extend the lead to 4-1. Emphatic wins for
George and
The
Terminators match against the Tables got off to a flying start when Charles
Goddard beat Wally Ladmore and left their opponents
chasing a 3-0 lead. Darren Swan started to pull the match back with a fine win
against David Boatman, and there was a win for Ladmore.
However, the Tables decision to keep Stephen Cruickshanks playing in the first
division has improved this young man’s game tremendously and he held his own
against all three Terminators and completed a stunning win over Goddard,
acclaiming a “Man of the Match” accolade from the Terminators.
Trimwise
continue to stretch their legs in the first division with a fine win over the
Merlins, this despite a surprising first game win for Ian Ruddock over Paul
Wright Snr and a plucky performance in the doubles
for the Mutford based team. Oddbods would have had the Spartans on the ropes
but for Thomas Baxter who yet again proved defiant, picking off the experienced
Bob Lamb and Eddie Fuller and forcing the doubles to a deciding set. The
seven-point win for Oddbods however proved enough to confirm their second
placed position at this halfway stage of the season.
In Division
Two the Hits romped to a 7-3 victory in what could have been a much more
difficult match. But maximum scores for Mick Bayfield and Dave Logan including
wins over Graham Lawson and Chris Trindall sealed a
win against the Critters and maintains
