DOMINATORS TO DEFEND BLUE RIBAND TITLE

Despite five of the nine games requiring a deciding third set the Dominators picked up all of the points available against Trimwise in their Blue Riband semi final. Debra Faulkner took a first set lead in all of her games but none of it would bear fruit and the determined Dominators pulled back the games on all three occasions. Philip Tye had similar poor luck after taking a set off both Martin Peek and Luke Caswell but finishing with nothing to show for it. The Dominators will now defend their Blue Riband title against the Waveney Terminators in a repeat of last years final. The Terminators steamed away from the Sidewaves with only a win for Terry Shetliffe against Charles Goddard preventing a complete whitewash. The final of the Blue Riband Cup will be held on Friday 16th April at the Water Lane Leisure Centre.

In the penultimate week of the league, the Mill Lane Spartans found stiff competition from the Mutford Merlins. Thomas Baxter collected a maximum three for the Spartans but while Bob Knights found Colin Fortescue too challenging, Ian Rudock got caught out by a Kevin Baker counter attack after taking the first set 21-9 and loosing the next two. Trimwise had little problem with the Tables, not after Debra Faulkner beat Wally Ladmore and then went on to complete her maximum three. The Conservatives welcome merely two Piranhas to their Gorleston venue but two was enough, even after Malcolm Vasey bested Martin Drew. And Dominators recorded their first league defeat of the season. Inconsequential perhaps given they already have more than enough points to retain the league champions title, and playing as they were with a weaken team with reliance on second division support, but the Oddbods showed true grit and made even the normally consistent Stuart Baxter work for his points.

In the second division the LCC Shakers had an enjoyable, if fruitless, end of season game against the Sidewaves. With the season up wrapped up, nothing was riding on the match but the Sidewaves remained very competitive and bore all ten points for their labour.  The Critters had an early upset when Kevin Jones made light work of Alan Peek. However, the Critters eventually overwhelmed the Arrows and won 7-3. But there would be no reprieve for the Misfits as the Kites sailed away with a 10-0 win, despite Jonathan Block taking Bob Quantrill to three sets and David Etheridge snatching the first set from Brian Gooch.
