EVERYTHING TO PLAY FOR IN THE FINAL
WEEK OF THE LEAGUE CUP
Entering the
final group round week of the League Cup it’s all still wide open in at least
two of the groups. The Tables have bounced back from a troublesome start with
three match wins on the trot. Wally Ladmore sealed
the points for the Tables after stealing back a final set 21-20 from Malcolm
Vasey and earned all three to head up a 7-2 victory against the Gorleston
Conservatives. With Eddie Mason and Darren Swan each claiming two, the Tables
climb from 5th to 2nd place with just a single match to
play. Piranhas meanwhile continue to head up Group One now six points clear
following their massive 8-1 victory over the Beacons. Only Derek Humphries
could pick up a lonely point for the
Gary Warnes clawed the Critters off the bottom of Group Two
winning all three of his games and claiming the first win for the Critters in
this competition. The LCC Shakers held steady matching point for point but a
focused Warnes kept the rallies tight and clinched
the final game. Unbeaten and current League Cup champions Dominators are striding
away in this group. Their 5-4 victory over Oddbods came courtesy of another
maximum score from Stuart (we must review your handicap) Baxter and now
guarantees Dominators one of the two automatic qualifying places to the next
round. Tom Pettifer and Kevin Jones were behind the
Arrows firepower as they found themselves also on target for the next round
following their 6-3 victory against Waveney Terminators.
In Group Three
the Merlins, having played all their matches, can now only sit back and see if
they’ve done enough to qualify for the next round after they tripped up against
the Kites. Kenny Carter and Brain Gooch pick off the Mutford team becoming
masters of the single point decider. Luke Glaysher
(another one for handicap review) topped his score from last week when he
played up again from the cadet school for Trimwise this time with a maximum
three points. It was enough to take the win for Trimwise and put them in
striking distance of a qualifying place.
The winning
and second placed teams from the group round will go through to the quarter
final knockout stage along with the two highest scoring third places. These
qualifying third places are calculated by dividing the total number of points
scored by the number of games played, leaving all teams still capable of qualifying
with everything to play for in the final week.
