ALL CLOSE IN LEAGUE CUP GROUP ONE

As the League Cup enters it’s final games only five points separate the Group One teams. Waveney Sidewaves may sit at the foot of the table but following their win against Piranhas they are now merely two points from an automatic promotion place into the knockout stage of this competition. The Sidewaves win followed a maximum three from three for Kevin McLaughlin who used the handicap system to his advantage to net all three Piranhas despite the best efforts of Ryan Moore and Ernie George. The Tables meanwhile pulled themselves back into the running with a 6-3 victory. Darren Swan and Wally Ladmore snuffed out the visiting Beacons who could only congratulate their opponents. And Misfits now occupy the second promotion spot having swept away the Conservatives. Young Jonathon Block and Oliver Bailey kept the more experienced Gorleston side in check and provided the Misfits with a much needed win.

Stuart Faulkner can be forgiven for feeling a little unlucky during his match against the Oddbods. While fellow Arrows stormed through the Northgate defences, Faulkner fell just short at each occasion, loosing both sets 20-21 to Bob Lamb in the opener, and then having recovered from dropping the first set, couldn’t find the critical final points against Eddie Fuller and then Chris Durrant. But Kevin and Lauren Jones found enough points between them to keep the Arrows on target towards the next round. The Critters needed assistance from Charlotte Mildenhall due to squad absences for their match against the Dominators, who then used her handicap to pitch up a cracking win against Men’s Champion Martin Peek and keep the Critters in the match. But Stuart Baxter brought any thoughts of a Critter escape to an end as he strode past with three successive wins and a 6-3 victory for the Dominators. Trevor Pull opened well for the Terminators but if there was any comfort it was short live as the Shakers proceeded to pick the Waveney team apart. Paul Wright just couldn’t seem to find enough to pull back a heavy deficient of handicap points as all three of his games fell away in the final set.

In Group 3 a comfortable win for the Merlins places them in prime position. While Trimwise used cadet Luke Glaysher to good effect when they took five points from the Kites.

Coaching sessions are conducted every Thursday at the Waterlane centre from 7pm, and new cadets are always welcome.
